Sao Paulo is the largest city in the western hemisphere, and the southern hemisphere by population. It is also the 10th richest city in the world by GDP, and more than 6 billion dollars worth of luxury goods, (Gucci, Chanel, Armani, etc.) were sold here in 2010. It is the financial epicenter of Brazil, and home to the second largest stock exchange in the world. Let's face it, Sao Paulo is Big! And by any standards is one of the world's most important cities with excellent museums, theaters, bars, clubs and restaurants. The nightlife here starts late and ends early, in the morning that is. Sao Paulo is a city of neighborhoods or Bairros, each with it's own personality, and there are endless activities available to travelers here. An important cultural center Sao Paulo has an extensive selection of museums including the Museu Paulista, Memorial da América Latina, and the Museu de Arte de São Paulo; Theaters, featuring all types of performances from opera to jazz, and legitimate theater to experimental electronic music, and Sao Paulo is also one of Brazil's Samba capitals, and one its most important sports centers. As everywhere in Brazil football (soccer) is wildly popular in Sao Paulo, the "Metropolis" will be one of the host cities for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It is also the home of the Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix. When it comes to restaurants, Sao Paulo is a gastronomic bonanza, teeming with excellent restaurants, many in the Jardim Panorama, and Jardins neighborhoods along with numerous luxury boutiques, and five star hotels.
